FACULTY MEMBERS

The NTUST Department of Architecture has a strong faculty, covering all fields of architecture. With an equal emphasis on teaching and research, our faculty quickly responds to new developments in technology, and current trends in architectural design.

The department’s current faculty consists of 13 full-time academic staff, including three chair professors, five associate professors, five assistant professors, and
a project instructor.

Teachers’ expertise can be grouped into:

  1. architectural history
  2. architectural theories
  3. architectural planning
  4. metropolis city planning
  5. urban disaster mitigation
  6. environmental control
  7. building construction
  8. computer-aided architectural design
  9.  engineering management and building of disaster mitigation expertise.

Yi-Shiu Chiou has been here since 2007 to fill the vacancy left by a former teacher Shang-fan Jian who transferred to the National Cheng Kung University. Besides, Jeng-Tau Ya who came here in 2008 owns a wealth of teaching and practical experiences. The department is currently part of the curriculum adopting the concept of integrated studies, a lecture delivered at the same time by 2-3 teachers, so as to obtain all-round research findings by mutual discussions. Our department also has short-term project teachers to reduce the workload of the full time faculty.

In addition to teaching and research, teachers participate in planning and supervising construction on campus, and also they actively take part in various committees to improve the teaching and research environment. Teachers in the department participate in recruiting students in vocational system formulating questions and marking test papers, providing services for technical and vocational education. Teachers who take on professional academic directors), supervisors, and other administrative duties out of campus are also responsible for the work of reviewing publications, compiling drafts and counseling . Besides entrance examination papers and oral examination of vocational education, they act as various grades examiners in Ministry of Examination, such as high examinations, special examinations, examinations of specialized vocational and technical staff members. They are responsible for formulating questions and marking examination paper and meanwhile are invited to oversee assessment of professional work in primary and secondary schools and citizen groups to make a contribution for making various laws and regulations.
