Speaker Introduction

Osamu Ishiyama, a renowned architect and scholar from Japan, is also an honorary professor at Waseda University. Professor Ishiyama has been a revolutionary figure in the Japanese architectural scene. Dissatisfied with the academic establishment since his student days, he sought guidance from the genius of mechanics and futurology, Kenji Kawakami. Under Kawakami’s influence, Ishiyama designed a corrugated iron house called “Gen-an” in 1975, which was unprecedented in Japanese architecture at the time. Since then, his works have been the focus of attention in the Japanese architectural community.Following the Metabolism movement, a group of passionate young architects emerged in Japan, known as the “Samurai of the Peace Era,” including prominent figures like Tadao Ando, Toyo Ito, Yoshiaki Yamamoto, and Osamu Ishiyama. They gradually gained recognition and became important architects who shaped contemporary Japanese architecture today. Professor Ishiyama has received numerous architecture awards, including the Yasuda Prize (Izu Nagaoka Museum), the Japan Institute of Architects Award (RIAS-ARK Museum), the Venice Architecture Biennale Award (Scattered Ruins), the Japan Cultural Design Award, the Oribe Award, and the Art Education Science Award (Setagaya Village).

C.Y. Lee, as widely known, is a prominent architect from Taiwan, celebrated internationally for his distinctive design style and exceptional works.
