2026 Hiroshima University Workshop

Architectural Construction EMI Program Visits Hiroshima University for International Workshop

From June 14 to June 19, faculty and students from the Department’s Architectural Construction EMI Program visited the Department of Architecture at Hiroshima University in Japan for an international design workshop. We sincerely thank the department chair and faculty members for their generous support, which made this valuable opportunity for international exchange possible.

The NTUST team included one faculty member and thirteen third-year students. Hiroshima University’s Department of Architecture participated with five faculty members and eighteen fourth-year students. The workshop focused on the Motomachi High-Rise Apartment Complex in central Hiroshima, a 50-year-old social housing project designed by architect Masato Otaka. Students from Taiwan and Japan were divided into five mixed groups to develop design proposals based on the site’s current conditions and future potential.

Throughout the workshop, NTUST architecture students demonstrated strong abilities in international collaboration, design thinking, and presentation. Their proposals included introducing historical and cultural catalysts into public spaces, opening rooftop gardens and reorganizing the ground level to encourage cultural exchange, and developing layered façades that reflect multicultural coexistence. The professors from Hiroshima University, who have extensive experience organizing international workshops, highly praised the performance of NTUST students and noted that their work was among the strongest they had seen in previous workshops.

This international workshop not only deepened students’ understanding of social housing, urban renewal, and architectural construction, but also strengthened academic and design exchange between the two universities. We look forward to continuing international collaborations that create more opportunities for cross-cultural learning and professional growth for our students.
